The starting point of the project "Establishment of a permanent tourism cooperation in the Germany-Luxembourg-France border triangle" is the successfully completed LEADER project "Study on borderless tourism cooperation". This study was presented on December 16, 2022 in Remich in the presence of Tourism Minister DELLES and was equally financed by Moselfranken & Miselerland.
The core findings of this study are that there is a desire for better tourism cooperation in the tri-border region at all levels (politicians, municipalities, tourism professionals) and that an additional staff position is required for this. This new position will develop cross-border tourism profiles and products in close coordination with the tourism organizations from Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and France.
Therefore, in 2024 and 2025, a new LEADER cooperation project will be used to create a joint staff position at one of the tourism organizations and to develop a concept for the long-term establishment and financing of this position.
Since there is unfortunately no LEADER region in France near the border, the Communauté de Communes Bouzonvillois Trois Frontières, which also includes the area around Sierck-les-Bains (F), will cover certain costs outside the project (e.g. interpreters).
For a duration of two years, the cooperation partners are assuming an estimated budget of around €217,200 for personnel costs and functional costs. All three LEADER regions Miselerland (Luxembourg), Moselfranken (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Merzig-Wadern (Saarland) will each contribute €72,400.
The working group “Tourism without Borders”, which has been supported by LEADER for years, has approved the project outline and the many participating tourism professionals from the area from Echternach / Trier to Saarburg / Merzig & Perl / Schengen to Sierck / Thionville have pledged their active participation in this LEADER project.
