The Mëllerdall UNESCO Global Geopark is a major tourist attraction for the region and draws large numbers of visitors from both Switzerland and abroad every year. However, there is currently no central information point to welcome guests in person, provide guidance and explain the geopark’s unique features in an accessible way.
The completion of a new building in 2026 will lay the foundations for a modern visitor and information centre. This centre, which is unique in the country, is intended to serve as a central point of contact and a landmark, where residents and visitors alike will be provided with comprehensive information through targeted visitor guidance. In addition to providing expert advice on the unique features of the nature reserve and UNESCO Global Geopark, the centre will also bring the region’s identity to life.
The experience-based information and exhibition layout is not only aimed at tourists, but is also intended to be made available in future to stakeholders in the education sector and school groups.
As part of the project, a usage concept for the centre will be drawn up, selected exhibition elements will be realised, and accompanying communication and information materials will be produced. The Mëllerdall UNESCO Global Geopark’s visitor and information centre in the municipality of Beaufort is intended to help enhance the appeal of the Mëllerdall region as a place to live, enjoy nature and experience new things, and to promote sustainable regional development in line with the LEADER strategy. The project brings together the fields of nature and the environment, consultancy, education, culture and tourism.
