How can we strengthen community organisations and inspire more people to get involved in voluntary work? This is precisely the question addressed by the transnational LEADER project „Verein.Kultur.Leben 2.0“.

As part of a study visit, Jessica Cimander and Thomas Wallrich from the Miselerland LEADER office travelled to the Lahn-Dill-Wetzlar LEADER region (Hesse) to draw inspiration from successful practical examples and bring back fresh ideas for the Miselerland. The programme included exciting encounters and an in-depth exchange with dedicated individuals from a wide variety of clubs and initiatives – including the Franzis Cultural Centre in Wetzlar, the ‘Dorfkümmerin’ in Waldsolms, the SV Volpertshausen Women’s Volleyball Team, the Römisches Forum Waldgirmes e.V., the Hofcafé Blattlaus with its educational and inclusive market garden, and the Werdorf Local History Society.

Together, they discussed how voluntary work is changing, the challenges that organisations face today, and the creative solutions that have already been successfully implemented.

A particular highlight was the joint workshop with LEADER managers and representatives of local associations from four LEADER regions. This gave rise to numerous ideas on how associations can remain vibrant, attract new members and inspire people to take on board roles.

Because one thing is clear: clubs are at the heart of our social life. They bring people together, strengthen community spirit and play a key role in ensuring a high quality of life. This makes it all the more important to tackle the shortage of young members and the ageing membership of many clubs with new ideas and strong networks.

In early July 2027, the next field trip as part of the project will take place in the Austrian LEADER region of Pongau-Tennengau. Interested representatives of associations and local authorities from the Miselerland area are warmly invited to take part. Anyone interested can get in touch with the LEADER office in Grevenmacher.
