With the new Ruetsbech viewing platform in Berdorf, another visible result of a LEADER project was recently inaugurated. The project guides visitors to the Müllerthal region to places with the most stunning views. The hexagonal steel-and-wood structure with a glass railing rests on point foundations that protect the sensitive sandstone. The wood used comes from the region. A barrier-free access path allows people with limited mobility to enjoy the view into the valley of the Black Ernz.
The municipality of Berdorf built the platform at a location identified as particularly scenic during a LEADER project. The underlying project focused on systematically documenting exceptional viewpoints in the region. Over 200 spots were inventoried, assessed, and documented in terms of their touristic and ecological significance by an interdisciplinary group—including the Regional Initiative Mëllerdall, the ORT Region Müllerthal – Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, the Nature and Forestry Administration, natur&ëmwelt, and other partners. The goal is to gently develop special places in the region—in harmony with nature conservation.
