Listen to the youth! With this claim, the transnational LEADER project „Ju&Me Europe“ entered its first phase on 24 February 2026. At the digital kick-off event, representatives of seven LEADER groups from five countries (Germany, Finland, Poland, France, Luxembourg) came together to pave the way for a mentoring programme that rethinks participation.
The project builds on a successful model from the Leipziger Muldenland LEADER region and pursues a clear objective: to actively involve young people in regional development processes, not as a target group, but as creative partners.
The first phase of the project will focus on training. The LEADER management and experts from participating institutions will be prepared to implement „Ju&Me Europe“ in their respective regions.
Young mentors for old hands
In the next step, young people and adults from the regions are invited to apply for the programme. Young people are trained as mentors and work in tandems with decision-makers from politics, administration, business or associations.
This is how it is created:
- a direct exchange between generations
- New perspectives for regional development
- a contemporary form of youth participation.
Especially in rural regions that are confronted with weakening social structures or integration issues, „Ju&Me Europe“ sends a strong signal in favour of participation and responsibility. With this project, the LEADER region of Mëllerdall and its partners are consistently developing the bottom-up principle: instead of talking about young people, they are working together with them.
