The regional mayors' council met for the first time in Tuntange on 2 October. LEADER Zentrum Westen set up this informal body to strengthen the exchange between the mayors and to sound out the areas in which the municipalities can expand their cooperation in future. The long-term goal is a strong alliance for the Zentrum Westen region.

Jan Glas from Snakke & Co, a company specialising in the professional support of participatory processes, moderated the two-hour discussion, during which it quickly became clear that the municipalities face similar challenges, particularly in the areas of housing policy, tourism, culture and water management, and could benefit from a regular exchange of experiences.

The mayors called for a structured dialogue and a pragmatic approach that focuses on best practice examples. To this end, experts in the respective specialist areas should also provide the mayors with concrete information and assistance in dealing with their municipal tasks.
